The gender wage gap has existed since women began having jobs and careers in the economy. At first the wage gap was all about discrimination and social stereotypes, now it has become more complicated than that. The issue today has evolved into a complex issue that combines our American culture, economic policy and social culture. As a result, some are skeptical about the matter and others are very adamant in their mindset. The Equal Pay Act was introduced during the Kennedy administration. Since then, the gender wage gap has narrowed every year, but it still exists in the United States. The gender wage gap is the difference between how women and men are paid for doing the same job. Every year and based on the wage share women are paid 59 cents more than before, which can be a good thing, more or less the paychecks are not the same for working women and men working in the field. People have been trying to prove whether the gender wage gap is established or not important since before the first law was passed. In 1963 the gender wage gap was a big problem; women earned only 63% of what men in the same positions earned. As time goes on, women now earn on average 77% of what men in the same position earn. Employers complain that women regularly choose family obligations over their work. In politics men believe that women should not be in the field because they are women; although they may have the same education, the women in the film will eventually have families and have children to take care of. Many companies believe that men can do a better job than women because men necessarily need to worry about managing the home since it is primarily women's job as "house keeper". When many companies say this, it sparks a debate, riot and protest about the pay of working women. To date, there is still no definitive reason why, but the gap seems to be closing little by little every year.
