The colonists who settled in North America considered themselves part of Great Britain and British citizens. After the end of the French and Indian War, King George III ordered all those living in North America not to settle east of the Appalachian Mountains, all those living west of the mountains were forced to move east. The colonists began to notice how badly and unfairly they were being treated and how they were being treated as if they were not part of Britain. “In 1765 Parliament passed the Quartering Act which required the colonist to find or pay for lodgings for British soldiers stationed in America.” To me, this was the beginning of the American Revolution because of the continued injustice that was portrayed towards the colonist. They thought they had the right to tax the colonists and began passing laws that forced the colonists to pay taxes. “These taxes included the Stamp Act, passed in 1765, which required the use of special paper bearing an embossed tax stamp for all legal documents.” There were other acts passed by Parliament, one of the acts passed made the colonists so furious and frustrated that they rebelled against Parliament. This act of rebellion later became known as The Boston Tea Party. The colonist was taxed on all goods imported from Britain and most colonists believed that they should not have been charged such taxes as they were not approved by the colonial government. “In 1773 some colonists in Boston, Massachusetts demonstrated their frustration by dressing as Indians, sneaking onto ships in the harbor, and dumping imported tea into the water.” All these events brought us to the First Continental Congress, where the colonists drew up a list of complaints made against the British Parliament. In my opinion the real cause of the American Revolution was the war debt. Britain was trying to get out of its debt and was treating the colonists living in America badly, making them pay for something they shouldn't have to pay for. Many people felt they had no say, and most settlers were unhappy with the way they were treated. “In April 1775, a group of colonists fought against the British Army at the Battle of Lexington and Concord.” They then created a Continental Army of 13 colonies and the American Revolution began. The American colonies won the war against Great Britain and became what is now known as the United States of America.
