Topic > The problem of criticism and sexism against women

For years women have had to overcome obstacles and prejudices. However, women have made great strides, especially in the 20th century. Through struggle and advocacy, women were able to gain the right to vote and hold real jobs. Women can go to school and become financially independent, no longer just looking for a husband. Men and women should face the same struggle to advance their careers or get an A on a test. There is a difference to be made between sexism and behavioral norms between men and women. There is a difference between paying a woman substantially less to do the same job as a man and opening the door for a woman. Paying a woman a lower salary indicates that she is not as valuable in the workplace. Some women take opening the door offensively, thinking that the man doesn't feel capable of taking care of herself, but in reality he usually doesn't mean that. Real forms of sexism occur every day. Some forms of sexism I will experience in the future will affect my career. I am currently studying to become a social worker, a profession where the workers are approximately 82% female. But according to my social work teacher, who is a full-time social worker herself, although the social work profession is primarily made up of women, men are more likely to get higher-level positions. This seems to be very sexist. Another form of sexism in the workplace is the assumption that women should be limited to being nurses and not advance to become doctors. Women are perceived as the ones who take care of them and do the dirty work. Men are perceived as more ambitious and responsible for the entire operation. A specific example of this was when my friend, who works in a home hospital as a tech, worked under the supervision of a male doctor. According to her, he snapped his fingers and said, "Come here, honey," instead of addressing her by her name. It is disrespectful to their differences in position and gender. Finally, women are still expected to run the errands or do the demanding jobs in the workplace. Women are expected to make coffee, answer the phone, organize meetings and clean up after everyone. The workplace is still a generally paternalistic area and it is simply “normal” for women to fill these roles and perform these tasks. The workplace is starting to stabilize. But we're still at the point where a female CEO would turn heads. There are still steps to be taken. Please note: this is just an example. Get a custom paper from our expert writers now. If a woman wants to go to college simply to find her husband, then that's her choice. I personally wouldn't do it, but some women do. And they should feel free to do so. But this should not be expected to be the purpose for which.
