Although there are many cases and arguments for mind-body dualism, such as Descartes' substance dualism, the theory often lacks concrete physical evidence to support its premises as science does. Continuous scientific progress over the last few centuries has allowed us to better understand universal truths and functions of the body-mind that in the past could not be explained scientifically. Many complex and inexplicable complexities have been simplified or “reduced” through chemistry, biology or physics. Through comparing arguments in support of dualist theories and counterarguments, I will demonstrate that dualism is a concept of the past and that continued scientific progress is inevitable and will one day allow us to understand many dualistic explanations with concrete evidence and scientific evidence that we do not have they have managed to do this in the past. One of the main dualistic theories, and one of the first proposed, was Descartes' interactive substance dualism. It is the view that the mind and body are separate entities, while the brain is part of the body, which is purely physical; our mind is a mental substance that is an extension of the body, a separate entity. When experiencing pain, for example, the body experiences certain chemical and electrical stimuli (physical properties), which cause the self/soul to consciously experience the felt quality and awareness of the pain (mental property). In substance dualism there is a strong argument that the soul and brain interact closely with each other, although they are different substances with different properties. For dualists, who include both Substance and Physical, it seems obvious that physical properties have no characteristics that mental progress is inevitable. certain that with scientific progress they will continue to progress and will allow us to better understand how our body and mind interact. We are not simply trying to argue science without reason instead of theories like Dualism, but the reasoning behind this is that Dualism and other related theories often lack concrete physical evidence to support such claims or main points of the theory. They are simply outdated in terms of scientific explanations, and while many proponents still exist today, in some cases they are forced to rely on faith stemming from a lack of concrete physical evidence. Although there are many aspects that science has not been able to explain, we hope to one day gain knowledge from science and, in time, explain the complexities and universal truth that still exists today.
