The Creation of the World The creation of the earth and everything within it is mysterious, but miraculous at the same time. While there are probably hundreds of different accounts, they all look different while being nearly identical in text. I will compare and contrast the Priestly account and the Yahwist account in the book of Genesis. Along with these accounts I will discuss key elements of creation theology and eco-spirituality in the world and how they fit into my life. These two versions of creation can be distinguished in various ways. The two stories differed in how they were told, how humans were created, man's purpose in life and image, and the role God played. The first difference was how humans were created. human beings and the world around them. In the priestly account the works of creation occurred in six days. On the first day God separated the light from the darkness, on the second day the water was divided from above and below the dome. The third and fourth days consisted of the appearance of land and plants, as well as the firmament of the sun, moon and stars. On the fifth day the birds and fish were created, and on the sixth day the animals and humans appeared. The seventh day was God's rest day, or as we know it, the Sabbath day, representing the completeness of God. As per the Yawists' account, humans were created when there was no rain and no one to plow the soil. The Yahwist formed man from the dust of the earth, then breathed into the man's nostrils to provide him with life. From the same soil came the wild beasts and birds that roam the earth today. This is why God was known as a potter, as He created man…from the middle of paper…earth, and gave him the strength and courage to deal with ecological issues. The human community must take the time to partner with God and protect all that He has created. The above elements could apply in my life in many ways, for example it is important to live in moderation. If I lived in moderation I would help the world around us by preserving our resources, because we are in an ecological crisis. If I make good judgment about the things I make and the things I choose to use, perhaps others will do the same, and perhaps we can slow this erosion of natural material from our world. Finally, if I maintain strength and courage towards these ecological problems, then perhaps I could help others understand our problem and gain their support in this fight. It is important to stay strong to fight issues such as nuclear and ecological issues.
