Topic > Defining the Conception of God - 1270

What must be real for something to be real, what must exist for something to exist? For Spinoza, before one can fully understand ethics one must be familiar with metaphysics. Metaphysics deals with the fundamental principles that characterize everything; metaphysics is the ground from which everything arises. This is why Ethics begins with God and nature as a whole before even starting conversations about the human mind. Spinoza was anti-religious in his position; it was not articulated about a God under a theological or religious aspect but as a metaphysical aspect on the nature of reality. Spinoza agrees with the religious conception according to which there actually exists an intimate relationship between man and God but not with the Christian conception of the relationship; his ideas about this connection are very different from those of Christians. Spinoza believed that nature was one and God was one. This is to state that the mind and body are equally truthful and that human nature is actually one in itself. This consideration demonstrates that man is united with God in Spinoza's observation. Spinoza uses the geometric method to help people understand God and human nature, he knew that one should follow the natural order of entities because before one can fully understand human nature, one must be aware of the fundamental truth of the nature of reality as a Together. To truly understand God and the order of nature you must first establish an understanding of the universal laws of nature, Spinoza's use of the geometric method helps to do just that. The geometric method is very logical and serves to recognize from the beginning the fundamental truths of nature and the laws that govern thought and extension, this being all... one free. The power of God Himself that is in all of us in some sense to a lesser or greater degree. This also means that existence simply does not exist, it is necessary because it is infinite and eternal. Existence is what must exist for something to exist, so if something exists then it is actually God who exists. With the use of the geometric method, Spinoza is able to identify and make intelligible the conception of God. Give the ability to understand God and human nature so that one can fully understand ethics with this method. For it is not possible to fully understand human nature until one is aware of the fundamental truth of the nature of reality. In order for the human mind to have the basic substance to understand itself, including nature and God, by thought and extension, demonstrating that every mind is indeed capable of understanding God.
