Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous love stories, but what if the play was not actually a love story, but of total obsession and infatuation. Romeo has an immature concept of love and is quite obsessive. However, Romeo is not the only person in the play who is obsessed. Many people throughout the show notice his immaturity regarding love. Very rarely was true love actually shown in comedy. Attention. Romeo cries childishly to his friend Benvolio because Rosaline will not love him and says "He has given up loving, and in that vow / I live dead that I live to tell now" (I i 219-220). Romeo states that he is ready to die for having loved Rosaline. This is exactly the same attitude that Romeo had towards Juliet a little later in the play. During Scene I, Act II, Romeo's friend Benvolio tries to convince him to go to the Capulet party to help him forget Rosaline and meet other women. Romeo gets very angry and emotional when he suggests it. “Now Romeo is loved and returns to love, / Equally bewitched by the enchantment of glances” (II 5-6).
