Censorship/banning of certain books helps protect children from the evil ways of the world that they should not see until an older, more mature age. Books with cruel language and mature thoughts and circumstances should only be read by teenagers or young adults. At an older age students are more likely to be able to understand the content of the book. As well as students being less likely to be frightened by the foul language and activities in the text than a younger child might be. Young children are impressionable, and these types of books can leave unpleasant thoughts and influence children's current behaviors and futures. The ban on books like The Young Hunter by J.D. Salinger and others should only be banned until the eighth grade. On the other hand, some people may believe that books should never be banned in school. According to Oscar Wilde, the author of The Picture of Dorian Gray, said that “The books that the world calls immoral are the books that show the world its shame” (BuzzFeed). Banning books hides the truth about the world from children. At the same time it is to protect them from the evil of the world at a young age. If books were banned to a certain degree, it would not protect children from the truth of the world forever. This would protect children from the world until the right age where they could understand the text. Children are impressionable and will remember and repeat everything they hear and read. It is not wise to give children a book that is more mature than them and expect them not to take inappropriate and vulgar language and not use it in their lives, that is, not to scare them. In the book… middle of paper… in high school and are normally subjected to foul language and sexual content during the day, so this would also give them a better understanding of the book. Banning certain books helps protect children from the evil ways of the world that they should not see until an older, more mature age. The cruel language and violence in this book can influence children to act and could alter their futures. Works CitedBuzzFeed." Community. Np, 23 September 2013.
