Introduction In Canada, approximately 4.2 million people with disabilities are in the workforce (People). It's no secret that there is a significant discrepancy between the unemployment rate of disabled people and that of able-bodied people. People with disabilities have also faced reduced wages and benefits in the workplace (Galarneau 5). The company, in fact, is constantly aware of the intention to eliminate such acts of discrimination. For example, the Canadian government and some public agencies provide certain types of employment assistance that aim to help their clients secure and maintain employment in the future. Not to mention the anti-discrimination legal practice. However, it is unclear why this discrepancy is so significant in each province (Statistics Canada). The point of interest of this research is to discuss some of the barriers that are creating such discrepancy in the unemployment rate. I will focus on the mechanism of how unemployment increases when these barriers are placed, or not removed, so as to test the hypothesis: the discrepancy in the unemployment rate is related to the failure to remove social barriers. The results of this research will reflect our current policies and assistance. Rehabilitation can also refine existing methodology in terms of helping disabled people retain employment in the long term as it is an essential part of the process. Method This research will study some cases taken from news and mainly personal blogs. This may allow us to understand these individuals' experience of implicit disability in the workplace.
