My heart stopped. I had been waiting for this day, and here it was, the letter I had been waiting for had finally arrived, sitting on the cold kitchen counter, unaccompanied by any other correspondence. My heart stopped. I dreaded this day as much as I anticipated it. But this was only the beginning. When I removed the seal on the envelope my heart started pounding. To this day I still don't exactly understand the events that happened on the day I would see my grandparents for the last time. I was four years old, I didn't know it then, but today I know it. To be honest, I didn't know much about anything that day. I didn't know the time of day, I didn't know the man in the taxi, yet the reason he had shown up at our little mud house on the mountain. Little did I know that this would be the last time I would see my grandparents, and I certainly didn't know that my life was about to take a wild and unexpected turn that I still experience today.
