To achieve that goal, I plan to focus specifically on increasing my daily calorie count by consuming the appropriate amount of foods from each of the five major food groups. Eliminating the lack of dairy in my diet is one of the biggest concerns when it comes to improving my overall diet. To increase the amount of nutrients I can get by consuming foods from this food group, I plan to make daily efforts to incorporate portions of nonfat milk, calcium-fortified soy milk, and natural cheeses into my meals. Likewise, to increase the daily servings of refined grains in my diet, I will focus on replacing white bread cereals with whole grain breads and swapping sugary breakfast waffles for low-sugar, high-fiber, flour-rich cereals. of oats. Due to the lack of protein in my daily diet, consuming lean protein meats, such as chicken and fish, as well as including beans in my meals would significantly improve my protein intake and provide the necessary nutrients derived from this source. Using my plate as a reference during both lunch and dinner would help increase and improve the consistency of the amount of vegetables and whole fruits I consume daily. Additionally, limiting my intake of foods high in sodium and saturated fat by carefully reading food labels could easily remedy my excessive sodium and saturated fat consumption.
