Conduct an investigation/research on what: o Media ethics is – 'Are there rules the media must follow?' The media has immense power within our community and the global world. As much as it can impact us, it should only provide us with direct, most accurate, unbiased, truthful, life-relevant and important news. Furthermore, it should act as a watchdog. When injustice, racism and other social ills are prevalent, they should be the first to alert the public. There is also a type of journalism called "Attack Journalism". A good example would be the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of Nixon, the then president. Two journalists investigated the case thoroughly and found that the president was involved in the crime. They were the main figures who led to the president's resignation. After this case, too many journalists wanted to report a high profile person to gain fame and money. However, this is not entirely good as sometimes it is not legitimate and is not in the interest of the general public. This has raised questions about what constitutes good reporting and journalism. These are some of the rules that the media should follow.o Media Bias – “How do you know if what you are hearing is true and accurate?” First of all, don't read or trust news articles that don't provide basic information like the author's name and the time it was written (the most recent time it was updated). Some of the most trusted news organizations are Cable News Network (CNN), British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Reuters, Public Broadcasting System (PBS), New York Times (NYT), The Washington Post (WP), and so on. By using the website like http://whois.domaintools.com/, you can find out if the website is trustworthy....... middle of paper ...... listen to something that is racist and unfair, we should act. For example, this fast food delivery driver is underpaid and his working conditions are terrible. If you are a lawyer, you can defend it for free and if you are a teacher, you can share the story with the class, so they can take appropriate action too. Australian citizens are already working to keep their media honest. They have a Facebook page called "Keeping the Australian Media Honest". If you find media that is unbalanced or biased, you can leave a comment and the admin will contact the source and resolve the issue. It has already proven effective as the Australian Broadcasting Channel (ABC) received a warning after reporting a distorted case relating to former Prime Minister Tony Abbot. There are many ways we can keep the media honest and on track.
