The Enlightenment was a time of discovery and innovation, in political and personal philosophy. The main purpose of the Enlightenment was to understand the world through different approaches, this was a time when knowledge was learned and acquired mostly through a philosopher called John Locke who had ideas about freedom of religion and citizens' rights and also wrote two books to show his views, those books are called "Two Treatises of Civil Government" and "An Essay on Human Intellect" in which he starts to discuss about political power, state of nature, difference between state of nature and state of war, functioning of property and how government should be run in the “two treatises on civil government” and for “human understanding” Locke discusses three objectives of this: his ideas are to find out “where ideas come from” “to ascertain what it means to have these ideas and what an idea essentially is” and “to examine questions of belief and opinion to determine how we should proceed logically when our knowledge is limited” Locke first begins his argument about the State of Nature in his “ two treatises on civil government” with go after Sir Robert Filmer and argue that no one has control over another individual and natural law governs and makes everyone equal and everyone has executive power and natural law Lockes' argument was such that he could fight against Sir Robert Filmer's theory of the divine right of sovereignty Locke states this by saying that no one should confuse the different types of power which are paternal, familial and political and that for each of these powers there are different characteristics Locke says that political power is the right to make laws and regulate the pr...... halfway through sheet......hopes that we can all unite and understand the existence and properties of things that exist in the world. John Locke's achievement was writing the essay “Concerning Human Understanding” which was the theory of ideas and knowledge which was published in 1689 and his other achievement was “The Two Treatises on Civil Government” which concerns the rights of individuals and the answer to political problems in England and gave ideas to the United States for its own constitution and led to democracy and this was also published in 1690. Locke's achievements helped contribute to a new way of life for the people and a new way of thinking and a way of surviving by saying that they can face life with and without authority and have the right to challenge the governing authority when they feel they are not being treated as people.
