Introduction: Although the correlation between states of anxiety, stress and the onset of periodontal disorders has been reported, further research on other psychological signs seems to be necessary. The objective of this study was to compare psychological signs in patients with chronic periodontitis with healthy people. Method: In a cross-sectional study, 40 patients with chronic periodontitis and 40 healthy individuals aged between 20 and 40 years who were able to read and write, were participated. Clinical examinations were performed by a single examiner. The psychological evaluation was carried out using the SCL-90-R questionnaire. This study was conducted in 2011 in the city of Zahedan (eastern Iran). All statistical analyzes were performed using SPSS software version 19. Comparison between groups was performed using independent t test and ANOVA, as appropriate. Results: A statistically significant difference was found in the mean scores of 9 psychological disorders between the study groups, but this difference was not psychologically significant. The mean Global Severity Index score in patients was higher than in healthy people and this was statistically and psychologically significant. After separating the individuals into four age groups (20-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40 years) it was indicated that in subjects aged between 31 and 35 years, the average scores of phobic anxiety, depression and anxiety were statistically lower. and psychologically significant among the study groups. Conclusion: This study can be used as a guide for further studies, especially longitudinal studies on people aged 31 to 35 years for data collection. (This is not a good conclusion. The conclusion should be based on the results of this study)Keywords: psychological disorders, SCL-90, chronic periodontitis, healthy people...... half of the document ......re Not There is comparable dental research but, after dividing the participants into four age groups, it was indicated that in subjects aged 31 to 35 years, the average score of phobic anxiety, depression and anxiety was statistically and psychologically different between patients and healthy groups. Periodontal disease has long-term health consequences and therefore a chronic pattern of adverse psychological effects is likely required to have measurable disease. (this sentence is not understandable)Since our results are derived from a cross-sectional study, they need to be complemented by further studies, especially longitudinal ones to confirm the results. However, the result of this study can be used as a guide to decide on important measurements, especially in the 31-35 age groups, to include in longitudinal studies for data collection. (I don't understand this part either)
