In front of a tent in a stall two men count money. When the boy found a stall still open, he went in and looked at a display of tea sets and porcelain vases. A young woman and two men with English accents were talking. Perhaps because the narrator is just a child, so when the young woman observed the boy, she simply "came over and asked him if he wanted to buy anything" and after the boy said no she went straight back to the two men and started to talk some more. The boy said no because he thought there was nothing in the stall that was good enough to give to his beloved girlfriend. He also said no because he didn't have enough money to pay for a gift. “I dropped the twopence against the sixpence I had in my pocket” (218). After the boy takes the train and buys the ticket, he only has two pennies left and six pennies that he can't buy anything, he uses these
