Group Proposal: Bullying (Q1 & 2) Group Type: Psychoeducational counseling group for students involved in bullying. Bullying is challenging and affects individual students, as well as the entire community. Bullying occurs along a continuum, with students taking on the roles of bully, victim, and bully-victim (Espelage & Horne, 2008) and is believed to create serious, long-term mental and physical consequences (Hawker & Boulton, 2000; Lunde, Frisen, & Hwang, 2007; Smith, Ananiadou, & Cowie, 2003; (Q3) Group objectives: The group will provide psychoeducation to students in all types of counseling groups common in schools to the culture of primary and secondary education, as students learn new information. Through the provision of psychoeducation, students gain knowledge and can apply the information to themselves with the necessary assistance. Group members will experience the benefits of the dynamics Process groups develop a broader and deeper understanding of relationships through group interactions (Rosen & Bezold, 2001) and develop a sense of empowerment through their interactions (Bemak et al., 2005). During group counseling, students will have both short- and long-term goals. The short-term goal includes 6 sessions that will focus on intermediate goals of therapy, learning new ways to solve problems, coping skills, and managing difficult situations. Long-term goals will involve a “Behavior Management Plan” that will include 3-4 goals that students will work on throughout the school year. At the end of the year there will be an assessment of student progress...... half of document ......pment and mandates regarding problem behavior and violence prevention. As previously mentioned, school counselors play an important role in addressing concerns about bullying within schools and implementing intervention strategies for school staff, students, and parents. It is critical that school counselors use interventions, such as implementing group counseling, to help students who have been affected by bullying. The study shows that group counseling can be effective in increasing the self-esteem levels of students who have experienced bullying. If students who have experienced bullying participate in a counseling group, they will experience an increase in their self-esteem levels. School counselors can play an important role in directing school policies that address peer victimization and in developing strategies to foster more positive and healthy peer relationships..
