Paul was one of the greatest founders of the church and without him the church would not be where it is now. With Paul's help the church spread throughout the ancient world among both Jews and Gentiles. The Gentiles would not have joined the church if Paul had not come to them and spread the Good News. He also defended their becoming Christians without having to be Jews. Paul is a very influential disciple and is one of the most important. Paul was born in Tarsus, in present-day Türkiye, to a Jewish family from the diaspora. He was also a citizen of Rome, which allowed him to acquire an excellent education. With this education he became a Pharisee. The Pharisees' primary focus was the law, and Paul upheld it. Like other Jews of the time, Paul had two names; Paul, his Roman name, and Saul, his Hebrew name. Furthermore, the Jews had learned a specific trade, which for Paul was building tents. This would help him in his travels. Not much is known about his middle age and he recovers from the stoning on Boxing Day, when he was in his twenties or thirties. At this time he began to persecute Christians. At the stoning of St. Stephen, he at least approved and participated. He could have even driven it, but that's not certain. He later began traveling to Damascus to gather other Christians. Along the way he was blinded by a bright light and a voice called to him. It was the voice of Jesus saying: “Paul, Paul, why are you persecuting me”. He remained blind until he was taken to Damascus, where a Christian healed him, instructed by a dream. From here he became a preacher and missionary, mainly among the Gentiles. At first he was imprisoned and tortured by Jewish officials. He has been arrested several times and whippe...... middle of paper...... problem in new convert communities since this is how people lived before they converted. This is also the commandment to be against adultery and not to covet your neighbor's wife. Today, this is still an important topic and has been addressed many times in Vatican teachings. The fourth is to avoid imprudent decisions. Paul emphasizes wisdom and thinking before acting. Communities liked to jump to conclusions and act without thinking. Paul emphasizes thinking before action and it's great advice. Today we should still follow this advice and use our gift of wisdom. Paul gave great advice in his letters and is a great guide for everyone. He became one of the greatest saints and his works are often regarded as guidance and advice. Paul may be a bit underrated, but he still deserves an in-depth study of his teachings, as they are all still relevant today.
