The common answer to the question of whether or not we should always obey our parents is usually a simple, yes. However, when you truly evaluate this question, there are many contradictions in the answer. Would obeying your parents 24/7 really be the best outcome for every individual's eternal outcome in life? In reality this would not be the best choice. There are many reasons that can support this conclusion. In Romeo and Juliet and in real life, three main reasons why children should not always obey their parents include that times have changed since they were that age, parents think they know their child best when in reality they don't Thus, and children need to become self-sufficient and independent. For starters, in Romeo and Juliet and in real life, children aren't always supposed to obey their parents because times have changed since they were that age. As times change, so do many other things that can lead children to want to rebel. For an obvious example, in Romeo and Juliet Act I, Scene III lines 69-72 Lady Capulet says, “Well, think about marriage now. Younger than you, here in Verona, esteemed ladies, have already become mothers. By my reckoning, I have been your mother for most of the years that you are now a housekeeper. This shows very clearly that at that time women were getting married and having children at a very, very young age. Although when Juliet was that age it was quite common, look at the times now. If children got married so young it would be a crime. We cannot always rely on the beliefs of our ancestors; otherwise that tradition would still exist today. In today's day and age, times have changed drastically with technology compared to when parents were teenagers. Adults tend not to recognize all the new updates that might r...... middle of paper ......t. In the long run, obeying your parents is a great thing for all people to do in order to do well. However, we cannot follow them every single minute and second of every single day as we need to progress in life. Life is a journey that we ultimately have to complete alone. Ultimately, everything will fall on our shoulders, so our decisions cannot be attributed to our parents. Finally, the top three reasons why children should not always obey their parents include that times have changed since they were that age, parents think they know their children better when in reality they don't, and children they need to become self-aware. confident and their own individuals.
