American employers who were short of workers often promoted jobs so immigrants could come to work for them, they even published a guide titled "Where to Emigrate and why,” Steamship companies advertised to passengers and told them how much faster and healthier/safer it would be. Once they got here, immigrants would write to their families and friends to describe how beautiful it is in the United States, which brought even more immigrants to the United States. However when some immigrants arrived they realized that it was not what people described nor what they expected/hoped for; the immigrants would be the ones doing all the dirty work.
