Chapter Notes for Pride and PrejudiceChapter 1A rich man moves into the neighborhood and Mrs. Bennet wants Mr. Bennet to come visit with the long-term goal of getting married one of his five daughters. Mr. Bennet tells her that he will not visit Mr. Bingley.Chapter 2Mr. Bennet eventually goes and meets Mr. Bingley who is the first neighbor to do so. He does not immediately tell his wife that he has met him, but when he finally does, the girls become excited over Mr. Bingley's supposed return visit. Bingley returns the visit but when Mrs. Bennet invites him to dinner, he says he will be out of town. She returns from London with her two sisters, her brother-in-law and a rich gentleman named Darcy. They all go to a ball and during the ball Mr. Bingley suggests that Darcy dance with Elizabeth but he refuses saying "she is tolerable, but not beautiful enough to tempt me". This makes the neighborhood not like Darcy.Chapter 4Jane lets Elizabeth know that she likes Mr. Bingley and Elizabeth tells her that she doesn't know his beauty. Mr. Bingley inherited a lot of money from his father, and Darcy also has money but is not as sociable as Mr. Bingley and while Bingley liked dancing, Darcy does not.Chapter 5One of the Bennets' neighboring families are the Lucases. Elizabeth and Charlotte are good friends. After the dance the families talk about Mr. Bingley, who they say thinks Jane is the prettiest. The families then talk about Mr. Darcy who they have decided they don't like. Chapter 6Mr. The Bennet sisters, Mrs. Hursts and Miss Bingley, spend time with Elizabeth and Jane. Elizabeth sees that Jane likes Mr. Bingley, but Charlotte believes that Jane should reveal this fact to Mr. Bingley but... middle of paper ...... Lizzy again if she doesn't accept Mr. Bingley. Collins proposal, while Mr Bennet says the opposite. Then Charlotte arrives and Mr. Collins withdraws his proposal. Chapter 21 The girls go to Meryton the next day and Mr Wickham takes Elizabeth back. Mr Wickham meets Elizabeth's parents. A letter is received about Mr. Bingley's intentions to marry Georgiana Darcy. Elizabeth tells her mother that Mr. Bingley is out of town. Chapter 22Mr. Collins proposes to Charlotte and she says yes. She feels that he is rich while she is not. Mr. Collins tells the Bennets that he will return and they think he plans to marry one of the other sisters, but Charlotte tells Elizabeth the news. This shocks Elizabeth.Chapter 23Mrs. Bennet doesn't take this news well. No words are heard from Mr. Bingley. Mrs. Bennet fears that Charlotte will kick the girls out after Mr. Bennet's death.
