End of Breeding Programs Have you ever been to a Seaworld Shamu show or park? Where are you aware of the cruelty that happens behind the lights and the magic of the shows? Those creatures you see playing pranks are depressed and locked in their own personal hell. More and more marine animals, such as killer whales (also known as killer whales), are being captured and forced into captivity. Captivity not only limits their freedom, but also damages their mental and physical health. SeaWorld parks are known to continue captivity and breeding of orcas in their parks in programs called "breeding programs". With these breeding programs, marine animals are born into poor conditions and have no trace or knowledge of freedom. Statistics show that the breeding program has recorded thirty-seven known pregnancies at SeaWorld parks since the first recorded captivity in 1985. Only eighteen of these calves survived to birth. That's barely half! A call to action is needed to end captive breeding programs at all SeaWorld parks; being the first step in ending all captivity. With these breeding programs, females and calves experience unnatural circumstances in captivity which mostly lead to infections/diseases or even death. An example is that of Gudrun, a female orca who went into labor. During labor, trainers and specialist doctors were unable to find the unborn calf's pulse, presuming it to be dead. The pain must have been supernatural, enough to cause the mother, Gudrun, to begin hemorrhaging. Days passed before Gudrun moved painlessly in her tub. A few hours later, Gudrun died. The list is endless for all the stressors that orcas experience and the impact continues to become colossal... middle of paper... the creatures' trainers and caregivers. Their lives are also at stake every day they go to work. This touches me personally because I have always had a love for marine life since I was a little girl. In fact, I'm guilty of going to SeaWorld once when I was very young, on a family vacation in Florida. I watched the Shamu show and walked all over the park. However, I was unaware of the cruelty the animals in those tanks suffered during captivity. I feel that knowing as much as possible is the key to correcting and fixing any mistakes. Learn and solve. There is no denying the evidence that these killer whales do not fare well in captivity. Period. It's time to stop this situation from going any further. It's time to give a real education on what life is like for these whales in their natural habitat. End captive breeding now and save innocent lives.
