PurposeBackground Sunway University (originally Sunway College) was established in 1987 when it was officially opened by the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah AlhajIbniAlmarhum Sultan HisamuddinAlam Shah Alhaj, the Sultan of Selangor DarulEhsan. Before becoming Sunway University, the institution was upgraded to University College status by the Minister of Higher Education on 12 August 2004. The letter of approval was presented by the then Minister of Higher Education YB Dato' DrShafie bin Haji MohdSalleh at YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO, during the launch of the National Patriotic Day celebrations at Sunway. On January 31, 2011, our founder, president and chancellor, Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah received the certificate from YB Dato' Seri Mohd Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia, who upgraded us to a full-fledged university. Sunway University's BSc (Hons) Information Systems combines technical IT elements with business management. The courses highlight technical skills in IT and provide sufficient knowledge of business and management issues of organizations. The BSc (Hons) Information Systems also has an analytical focus.
