My older brothers were only in middle school and my mother became unemployed because she had no one to take care of us. Although we had government assistance and food stamps, we lived near the poverty line and this was a risk factor that increased distress and depression (Lawson, 2013, p. 193) for my mother. Everything seemed fine, but towards my adolescence and young adult stage, I believe my mother became distressed and couldn't handle the bad behavior and poor school results we had. She disciplines using passive verbal abuse (McCleannen, 2010, p. 82) and sometimes even physical punishment. I personally believed that emotional abuse had influenced my behavior throughout my life
