Auschwitz was created in Oswiecim, Poland. Heinrich Himmler gave the order to build this "hell hole", as one survivor described it. In May 1940 Auschwitz was completely built. When the Germans took the Jews they decided which camp they would attend, if they chose Auschwitz it was more likely you would die soon after arriving. Once you arrived they divided the children into a separate row and the men into the other, there a doctor chose your fate or you worked as long as you could or if you seemed ill the doctor had the guards send you to the gas chamber immediately. Some mothers held their children for the last time, not knowing it would be the last time. Prisoners were assigned a number and this was tattooed on their forearm, their identity now just a number. The thought of not having freedom and not being able to eat makes a person very stressful...
