History will never forget the pain because it takes an ethnicity or even a nation to remember it. Even the Nanjing massacre, which represents the pain and shame of my home country, will not be forgotten or ignored. The Raping of Nanking by Iris Chang, a Chinese-American writer, has reshaped my view of the atrocities committed by Japanese soldiers and raises a question: Why do we need to remember the past and face it? Remembering history isn't just about being stuck with the past and stopping moving forward, but about looking for the lessons history has taught us and preventing the world from making the same mistakes again. The Rape of Nanjing uses the Nanjing Massacre as the core and analyzes the Holocaust from the national perspective of China, Japan and Western countries; also analyzes this piece of history that has been distorted for half the century. The book is divided into two parts; the author begins the first part by explaining the spirit of Japanese bushido and how it was forced to open the country to others, from the Meiji Restoration to the strengthening of the troops; from tasting the sweetness of external expansion to the depression of international exclusion; from the seismic disaster to the economic crisis to then expand its armed forces and the reasons for invading China; explains how the Japanese soldiers were divided into three groups and invaded Nanjing and when they arrived there how they killed the Chinese soldiers and citizens and raped the Chinese women and also mentioned the issue of comfort women to raise the issue and analyze the problem motivation of the massacre. At that time Nanjing was in the greatest chaos and not even children could escape the catastrophe. Chang also analyzes the tragic scene of the Chinese massacre by showing how the ...... middle of paper ...... goal of escaping and has even held a competition between whoever kills 100 people first will win the game. The Japanese continue to deny their actions and refuse to give an official apology to any perpetrators. Their officials go to the shrine to pay homage to their so-called heroes, ignoring how these "heroes" have deeply hurt the Chinese. During the Holocaust, live humans were taken to the gas chamber and had their organs removed to perform the experiment. The way the Nazis treated the Jews was similar to how the Japanese treated the Chinese. "The Japanese bury alive, castrate and burn fresh humans", history cannot be gone and should be remembered and taken seriously by all of us, racial discrimination and mass killings by race should never happen again in our civilized world. The lessons were bitter and painful and were exchanged by millions of lives.
