I grew up in a family that neither attended church nor believed in God. During my sophomore year of high school I attended a youth group where I met my Savior, and the year earlier my brother had also done the same. Six years later, my brother and I are still the only ones following Christ in my family. Being part of a mixed religious family, I decided to dig deeper into my mother's spiritual life to find out what she truly believes. I began by asking the fundamental question: Do you believe there is a God? My mother was raised Hindu, so I expected her to say yes; have foreknowledge that Hinduism is a polytheistic religion that believes in many gods. My mother's response was: “Yes, although I don't know what it's called.” The second question I asked was, “How would you describe your relationship with God and Jesus Christ? What are some factors that contribute to that view? My mother responded by saying, “My relationship with God is very spiritual and personal and is based on my Hindu upbringing.” When my mother was a child, she actually attended a Church of England school, and was therefore baptized and attended communion, but retained her Hindu beliefs. He also informed me that the Hindu religion actually accepts Jesus as the reincarnation of God and therefore did not feel conflicted when he attended school and sang Christian hymns. His final thoughts to that question were, “Hinduism is a very inclusive religion and this was reinforced in me when I read and watched the biopic on Gandhi. I also believe that God is very forgiving and loving.” The next question I asked was, “Let's assume for a moment that God is real. What would you say are the top three questions you would ask God?” The first question... middle of the paper... who, "Could you be the only one who reads the Bible", has finally become a real reality. At the beginning of my walk with God, I was so frustrated that I had a family that didn't support what I believed, but now I'm grateful for the family God placed me with. I have held onto a promise in God's word that says, "As I live,' says the Lord, every knee will bow before me and every tongue will confess and give praise to God." (New Living Translation, Rom. 4:11). I believe I will see salvation happen in my family, and after talking to Mom, I have never wanted it so much. Knowing now that this is His vision of the church and Christians destroys me, but I know that God will use me to speak life and shine His light. I fully believe that during my lifetime, my family. they will know Christ, and I can feel joy and comfort in announcing that I will see each of them in heaven.
