Dear California Department of Education, The problem with the failing school system in America is that some students are unwilling to learn because they believe that the subjects they are taught in school are not related to life and that teachers give lessons in which students have no interest. Education is clearly the tool for success in life, but if public teachers are not willing to show interest in their teaching to students, then how will students make the effort to learn? school. Students begin to lose interest in school because better teachers are fired due to budget cuts and are left with less good or bad teachers who have gained tenure. Tenure is what protects public school teachers who have taught for more than ten years and could no longer lose their teaching credential; therefore, they decided to take advantage of the American public school system in order to make money. American public teachers say they are here to get paid and don't care much about their students. Those teachers could clearly ruin a student's future because a teacher's voice could have a negative impact on the student, causing them not to try in school. Today there are many teachers in public schools who do not provide enough knowledge to their students; For example, at this time I was having a hard time writing an essay in college because the public teachers I had at my school would literally give me an outstanding grade just for completing the assignment, so I thought I had always been good at what I did. I thought writing essays was easy and it was just boring because I didn't put any effort into writing because I got exceptional grades on all my essays. J...... middle of paper ......if the public system worked this way every student would have a higher graduation rate and fewer school dropouts. Many students today have no say in the classroom when the teacher has authority over classroom rules. Harsh teachers cause students to lose creativity because they are too scared to speak up for themselves. Kind regards, Phillip Nguyen5/13/14
