Around the time of John F. Kennedy's assassination, the controversial and widely discussed issue of gun control erupted and set fire to all of America. Over the past decade, however, it has become one of the nation's hottest topics. Because of numerous recent shootings, including those at the famed Sandy Hook Elementary School, Columbine High School, the Aurora movie theater, and Virginia Tech, which together totaled 87 deaths, many people are starting to push for gun control at the national. An article published in the Chicago Tribune by Illinois State Senator Jacqueline Collins, titled “Gun Control is Long Overdue,” expressed the view that for America to remain the land of the free, we must take action in the form of laws on the most severe weapons.
