In life, change is inevitable. Les Brown once said, “Change is difficult, but often essential to survival.” This means that it is difficult to deal with the changes that happen around us, but they are important because they allow us to move forward with our lives. I agree with this statement because I have experienced things that have made me realize the truth of this quote. The first incident occurred when I had to leave America to go to the Philippines. The second is when I had to leave the Philippines and return to America. The first way this quote relates to my life is when I had to move from America to the Philippines. To understand this story you must first know something about me. I was born in the Philippines but my family moved to America in 2004 when I was only 4 and a half years old. I don't remember much before then, so I can't say I was deeply affected by it. I learned to speak English very quickly, but unfortunately I also started to forget how to speak Tagalog (a Filipino dialect spoken by my family). In 2008, when I was 8 years old, my parents told me and my brother that we had to go back to the Philippines and they would not come with us. When I asked them why, they only told me that my grandmother could no longer take care of us after school and no one else could. I asked them why they wouldn't come with us and they said it's because they still have jobs to go to. I was still young then so I didn't think much about it. Now that I think about it, that's probably not the only reason. I still don't know the whole story, but whatever it was, sending us back to the Philippines was probably the only choice my parents had. Since we were too young to fly alone, my mother came with us. When we landed... halfway... but with the help of my friends and family I was fine. No matter how difficult it was, I was still happy to finally be with my parents after 3 years of separation. These changes weren't easy to handle, but after a while things got better and I'm happy where I am now. According to Les Brown, “Change is difficult, but often essential for survival.” This means that it is always difficult to face changes, but they are important because they make us ready for life. The first way this relates to my life is when I had to move from America to the Philippines. The second way this relates to my life is when I had to move from the Philippines to America. We all go through changes and most of the time they can seem unbearable. The one thing people need to understand is that the changes they go through now are what will help them in the future.
