Introduction In today's society, many American companies are globalizing and turning to contracts outside the United States as a way to gain economic advantage. However, the globalized world faces challenges just like non-globalized businesses. Some of these challenges include socio-cultural viewpoints, values, ethics, etc. Therefore, Hunter-Worth's case study will help me understand how socio-cultural differences create problems that affect globalized companies and their management. An example of socio-cultural differences that this article will focus on is communication. There are many barriers to communication, and these barriers can occur at any point in the communication process. Communication barriers can cause messages to become unclear and therefore risk wasted time and/or money causing uncertainty and misunderstanding that could snowball into something much bigger. As a result, I will be able to identify my personal assessment of communication apprehension in this case study to learn how to communicate effectively with people from different cultures. Analysis After evaluating the issue it appears that Chuck Moore has a disconnect with Mexico plant manager Vicente Ruiz regarding effective communication in the case of Hunter-Worth. The problem began when Moore encountered productivity delays at the Mexican plant. Due to production delays relative to supply and demand, Chuck took it upon himself to contact Vicente. Little did Chuck know, Vicente doesn't answer his emails but his receptionist handles them for him. The problem escalated because Chuck felt that Vicente should have communicated directly with him. It is important for global companies to recognize how to communicate with employees and customers from different cultures to achieve the organization's mission and create value. From the personal assessment of communication apprehension I was able to recognize that I have a low level of apprehension and that I am able to communicate successfully. I believe that effective communication is essential in the business world and when conducting business. With this understanding and constantly growing knowledge I will communicate effectively, verbally and non-verbally, when introduced to different environments because it is the common form of communication in the world.
