School violence has become a very popular issue nowadays. From tragic school shootings to unexpected stabbings, the safety of every school is put in jeopardy. From the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999, to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012 and the recent stabbing in April, school violence has not abated. The time has come to do something now, if further action is not taken these problems will continue. Before school violence becomes too common among students and intruders, restrictions and plans need to be put in place now. School shootings have been a crime for a long time, unfortunately in the last three years they have become a more common problem. On April 20, 1999, a school shooting occurred at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado ("Columbine"). This shot was taken by two teenagers who hung out at Columbine. The teenagers' reasoning behind committing such crime is due to the fact that they were bullied by students at Columbine High School. This was a very tragic event for Columbine High School. With 13 people killed and 20 injured, it left a mark on the community. After the two teenagers started the shooting, they committed suicide. School shootings are a very serious issue, and for years, following shootings like Columbine, the atmosphere of the school, as well as that of the community, is damaged. The Columbine High School shooting is considered the worst shooting in United States history ("Columbine"). Schools never fully recover from tragic events such as school shootings; however, more prevention can be done to reduce the chances of school shootings occurring. In the town of Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14, 2012, another tragic school shooting occurred. Adam Lanza began his rampage by shooting his moth to death... in the middle of a sheet of paper... at states to ensure they shared background check information with the nationwide background check system ("Now "). Placing more restrictions on those who can purchase guns will reduce the amount of gun violence within communities and work to keep guns out of schools. If gun restrictions, as well as school safety plans, are not implemented now, the amount of violence will go nowhere unless it increases. Just this year there have been 11 school shootings. By implementing Obama's plan nationwide, the amount of school violence, as well as gun violence, will decrease. With increased safety in schools and on the streets, greater mental health care provided to students and society, as well as greater restrictions on gun purchases, Obama's plan is sure to keep guns out of schools and out of the hands of criminals.
